As the new State Chair for the San Diego District of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, I’d like to introduce myself, and offer my services to you and your program, particularly as regards compliance with the Standards of the Commission. Feel free to call on me in that regard, or in any other way that I may be of service.
To help disseminate information, and to share ideas, I’ve asked the local College Chapter to set up a Committee on Cancer, which will be composed of the County’s Hospital Liaisons. My proposal is to meet, for an early breakfast, several times a year, so that we might get to know each other, talk about our own programs successes, and use each other’s experience to help make our programs more successful. We can also talk about new cancer treatments, research, politics, and any other interesting cancer related (and unrelated!) topics. The Commission provides funds for this purpose, and in States that have tried this approach, the results have been outstanding. [Ohio has gone from the Committee to develop a very successful, annual Cancer Conference that’s achieved national prominence.]
You’ll soon receive notice of the first breakfast meeting. I hope you’ll be able to attend, and look forward to your participation.
Sincerely,
Jon M. Greif, DO, FACS
